PROJECT STATEMENT

The American Fork Boat Harbor project exemplifies how landscape architects, working closely with city leaders, engineers, and community members, can transform a modest infrastructure improvement into a valued public asset. Originally scoped as a parking lot improvement, the project expanded through stakeholder collaboration into a broader effort to create a restorative, safe, inclusive, and engaging waterfront experience.

Design decisions were shaped by public input and a commitment to accessibility, safety, and year-round use. Trails, nature play areas, and fishing access points were added to support recreation and social connection, while improving circulation and visibility across the site. Despite a tight budget, funded from the city and increased through tourism taxes and state grants, the team delivered a space that feels generous, functional, and welcoming.

Importantly, the project contributes to a broader cultural shift around Utah Lake—long burdened by negative perceptions. By aligning with the “Utah Lake is My Lake” initiative, the design helps foster a renewed sense of pride, ownership, and connection to this shared landscape.
